Technical Help for Using Virtual Classroom


JoinIvy virtual classroom is a very user-friendly technology. On some occasions, you may have to check the browser settings to ensure that it works smoothly. For your quick reference, given below are the easy steps.

1. Which browser should I use for virtual classroom?

Use either Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox.


2. What steps do I need before using my virtual classroom?

A. Make sure that your browser is ready for the virtual classroom. You can do the following steps yourself or with the help of our chat session or allowing us to do it remotely by allowing access

a) Make sure that your browser is updated.

b) Make sure that cache and cookies are cleared.

c) Make sure that you haveallowed access to camera and microphone to our website

B. You need a laptop or computer to run the classroom;it is currently not compatible with tablets or mobile phones.

C. A webcam – this can be inbuilt in your computer or it can be an external webcam.

D. A microphoneYou may like to use a headset with a built-in microphone for the best classroom experience. This not only ensures better audio, but also helps you in focussing better on studying.

E. A good internet connection with speed of at least 2Mbps is required for the online classroom to run without any issues. Make sure that during the lesson, no other device is using your Wi-Fi and sit close to the router. You may also use an ethernet cable plugged directly into your laptop or computer, for better speed.

a. Updating the browser : On your computer, open Chrome browser.

At the top right, click Menu (3 dots in a vertical line) below the window close (X) button. Then Click on help then click on About google chrome it will update itself if it’s not up to date.

b. Make sure that cache and cookies are cleared.

  • 1. On your computer, open Chrome.
  • 2. At the top right, click ⋮ Three Dots menu option.
  • 3. Click more tools > Clear browsing data.
  • 1. At the top, choose a time range, select All time.
  • 2. Next to “Cookies and other site data” and “Cached images and files,” check the boxes.
  • 3. Click Clear data.
  • 4. Then Close the entire Browser and make sure No tabs should be open & restart the browser.

C. Access to camera and microphone :

  • 1. On your computer, open Chrome
  • 2. At the top right, click ⋮ Three Dots menu option
  • 3. The go to Advanced and site settings.
  • 4. Click on camera and microphone to check that our site www.joinivy.com is allowed access. It is important that location access is turned on.

a. Updating the browser : On your computer, open Mozilla Firefox.

At the top right, click Menu as indicated by three bars below the window close (X) button. Then Click on Options and go to Advanced. Set it to update automatically.

b. Make sure that cache and cookies are cleared.

  • Select ‘History’ (Windows) or Tools (Mac) from the menu bar, and select ‘Clear Recent History’.
  • On the pop-up, select to view the details and ensure that ‘Cookies’ and ‘Cache’ are selected before selecting ‘Clear Now’

c. Access to camera and microphone : There are 2 options to do this.

Option 1 :

You can easily enable camera and microphone permissions by simply accessing relevant sites from your Firefox browser.

  • 1. Open Firefox and go to the desired site.
  • 2. A confirmation pop-up displays asking if you want to share your device’s camera and microphone with that site. Your device’s default camera and microphone is selected from the designated drop-downs.
  • 3. Select a different camera and/or microphone if necessary.
  • 4. Select the Remember this decision checkbox if you want Firefox to remember your selections for this site so that they can be used by default in the future.
  • 5. Click the Allow button.

Option 2 :

  • 1. Click the menu button and choose Options
  • 2. Click Privacy & Security from the left menu.
  • 3. Scroll down to the Permissions section.
  • 4. Click the Settings… button for the Camera and Microphone option.
  • 5. Enter the website URL in the Search field for the site that you want to access your camera.
  • 6. Press the Enter key.
